Die Kläranlage Bottrop (KLA BOT) der Emschergenossenschaft (auch: EG) hat eine Abwasserreinigungsleistung von rund 1,34 Mio. Einwohnerwerten. Das Einzugsgebiet umfasst hierbei Gebiete der Städte Bottrop, Bochum, Essen, Gelsenkirchen und Gladbeck. 1928 wurde die Kläranlage Bottrop in Betrieb genommen. Auf der Kläranlage wurden im Laufe der letzten Jahre zahlreiche Erzeugungsanlagen, eine Dampfturbine in der Klärschlammverbrennung, vier KlärgasBHKW, eine Windenergieanlage (WEA) und vier Erdgas-BHKW aufgebaut. Zurzeit befinden sich einige PV-Anlagen im Aufbau. Diese Erzeugungsanlagen werden allesamt ausschließlich netzparallel betrieben. Eine Möglichkeit des Inselbetriebs für den Notfall soll geschaffen werden.
